Trial Options

On your court date, you may plead guilty, nolo contendere, or not guilty before a Municipal Court Judge.

If you plead not guilty, you may choose:

A bench trial — heard and decided by the judge that same day, or
A jury trial — must be requested when you appear before the judge. The court will later notify you of the date for jury selection.

Filing an Appeal

A Notice of Appeal must be filed with both the Aiken County Clerk of Court and the North Augusta Municipal Court within 10 calendar days of your sentence or judgment. Calendar days include weekends and holidays; if the 10th day falls on a weekend or holiday, you may file on the next business day.

The fine assessed at sentencing must be paid when you file the Notice of Appeal.

Notice of Appeal forms are available at the Aiken County Clerk of Court's office or online (Notice of Intent to Appeal form). The Municipal Court will forward the judge's Return to the Aiken County Court of Common Pleas, which will mail notice of your appeal hearing to the address on your appeal paperwork. Direct any questions about appeal status to the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas.

Change of Address

You are responsible for notifying the North Augusta Municipal Court in writing of any change of address. Court date notices are sent to the address on your ticket or to the most recent address you have provided. To update your address, visit the Clerk of Court in person or mail a written notice to:
