Municipal Center Lighting Conversion

Post Date:04/28/2026 8:13 AM

The City of North Augusta was a recipient of funding from the United States Department of Energy (USDOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG Program), through the SC Energy Office.  The funding allocation provided up to $74,000.00 to implement improvements at the North Augusta Municipal Center to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.  The City chose to convert existing fluorescent light fixtures to light-emitting diode (LED)-type.   The LED’s selected for this project use about 50% less energy than the fluorescent lamps and provide brighter, more consistent light.  Over 1,300 individual lamps were replaced.  The estimated annual energy savings are 60,784 kWh, which is about the same amount of energy produced by 1,800 gallons of gasoline or 10 tons of coal.  The cost savings are estimated to be about $7,400 per year.
